About Counselling & Psychotherapy
How can counselling & Psychotherapy help?
Psychotherapy or counselling sessions can be helpful in many aspects of life. The process is not about me giving advice or supplying you with an answer, it is a supportive process for you to explore and find your own answers. The process of talking to someone who has no personal agenda in your decisions or areas of change provides the opportunity for you to safely share your thoughts, feelings and fears.
The difference between Counselling & Psychotherapy
The practice of counselling and psychotherapy overlap, but usually counselling is a focused process, perhaps looking at one particular issue over the course of 6 to 12 sessions. As a general definition, in Counselling we use the individuals' existing personal resources, whereas in Psychotherapy we would work to build new resources and personal resilience. Psychotherapy looks for (the reasons why) the historical underpinning of the issues you may be struggling with and consequently the outcome is likely to take longer to achieve. Sometimes the counselling process develops into one of psychotherapy.
